Mary got pregnant before she was married. To end this unbearable situation Joseph and Mary are summoned to appear before the elders in the synagogue where Mary will have to drink the waters of correction. Should she be with child prematurely, her belly would swell monstrously and her womb shrink simultaneously ending her motherhood once and for all.

Full of confidence Mary puts the drinking bowl to her lips, while the angry Jews in front of her and the traitor Annas in the background watch with rapt attention. While drinking, Mary’s face starts shining like the sun and the colours of her attire become radiant too. The spectators would surely have converted to Christianity had it been in existence, but now they can only humbly bend their heads, conscious of their false accusations [Numbers 5:25].
